Meredith & Matthew

How did you and your partner meet?

We met at work. Meredith was hired to replace Matthews' role.

How did your partner propose?

The plan was in the Old Vines of Chablis (France) on the first day of a European holiday, then Covid happened, instead Matt got down on one knee on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Bronte beach park. It was a surprise and it was amazing. Plenty of French champagne and cheese.

Why did you decide to have your wedding at Terrara House?

We came across Terrara House by chance. It was the one and only venue we looked at mainly because it allowed us the flexibility in areas that were important to us. We wanted a very relax, no frills wedding that was more like a garden party. The couple who run Terrara House really understood our brief and brought it to life. and the house is beautiful.

How many people attended your wedding?

46 including the Bride and Groom.

What made you choose to continue your wedding celebrations in the midst of COVID-19?

Luckily, due to the small numbers, COVID restrictions did not have a major impact on our plans. We also wanted to start our lives and not have to go through the process of delaying our wedding. We were very lucky, QLD and SA guests were able to attend.

What was most important to you as a couple when organising your intimate wedding celebration?

We love wine and food, so being able to BYO wine to our wedding was very important to us. We also loved the idea of hiring out the house for our immediate family. We were able to spend three nights at the house and make a festival of the wedding.

What were the benefits of hosting a smaller wedding celebration?

2 things: spending more money on the things that are important to you and being able to share the day with all your guests.

What was the menu for the celebration?

An entree of King fish and tomato Straticello. Mains included a lamb shoulder and hot smoked salmon. Dessert included Chocolate Mousse and Meringue.

What was your favourite part of the day?

At the end of the night and being on the dance floor. It was pouring rain but it didn't matter. Everyone was so happy, with parasol umbrellas in their hands and enjoyed the day. We also loved the ceremony. It was intimate under the Oak tree.

What is your advice for couples planning a wedding in the future?

1. Pick 3 things that are most important to you both for a wedding and focus on those. Everything else will fall into place.

2. Sometimes less is more. We had no bridal party, aisle, first dance, or flower arrangements. The day focussed on wine, food and family. It was a true reflection of us.

3. Don't sweat the small stuff. No one will notice on the day if everything doesn’t go exactly to plan.
