How did you and your partner meet?: Through work! Joel was part of the Melbourne office, while Emily was part of the Sydney office. Joel flew up to Sydney to be part of a Sydney-based project, met Emily on the first day of the project and that was it. He came up with more and more reasons to not return to Melbourne, until one day he made the move official.
How did you or partner propose? Joel organised a weekend away at a tiny house past the Blue Mountains. He brought along all of our faves – picnic supplies, card games, lots of snacks, Aperols, and our dog Franklin. We set up a picnic on the Saturday, Joel disappeared to make us a drink, returned with a ring box and popped the question! Super special.
What was your favourite part of your ceremony? We asked both of our mums to say a short speech to tell our story, their reflections on our relationship and their advice for our future. It was so special to have them stand up there as part of our ceremony and hear their beautiful words. Another key moment was of course seeing each other for the first time :)
What did you love about your reception? It was so incredible to have all our loved ones together in one room. There’s not many, if any, times in your life where you get that opportunity. The room was so full of love, happiness, and a laughter of laughter and it was so fun to see everyone talking and hitting the df together.
What is your advice for any future couples planning their wedding? You are the guest of honour, not the host. Don’t sweat the small stuff on the day, let the professionals take the lead and enjoy it all.
