Bek & David
Wedding Date: 31st May 2025
Ceremony Location
Hedges in Front of Terrara House. This was our plan AAA; our dream, perfect-weather location. If there had been even a hint of mud or wind, we would have happily pivoted to another (equally beautiful) spot on the property. But we were so lucky! The drama of the 2½-minute walk down the aisle, surrounded by stunning autumnal trees, was absolutely worth it and made for a truly unforgettable entrance.
Reception Location
White Top Marquee. We were blown away by what Emily and the White Top team created, it was like seeing all my mood boards come to life! We wanted the reception to feel like a ‘raided china cabinet,’ with everything feeling as if it could have been plucked straight from the house. It was pure magic!
How did you and your partner meet?
The good old fashioned way - Bumble. Our first date was at Earl’s Duke Joint in Newtown. We both pretended to like orange wines and discussed our families, friends and life. It was pretty clear to both of us early on that it was something special.
How did you or partner propose?
It wasn’t a complete surprise—we’d been talking about marriage and even met with our wonderful jeweller, Matthew Ely. After I (Bek) rambled my vague ideas, I was kindly asked to go for a walk while David and Matthew worked together to design the ring. The proposal happened the week before Christmas. I’d spent the day volunteering, wrapping presents for HeartKids, and came home (still in my bright red volunteer shirt) to find our apartment filled with candles, where David asked me to marry him. We still have clumps of wax stuck in our rug! We went for a lovely dinner and then got to celebrate our engagement with family and friends over Christmas.
What was your favourite part of your ceremony?
David: When Bek arrived at the top of the aisle with me. Bek: Right before we were announced as husband and wife a flock of gallahs flew overheard; a moment that couldn’t be planned!
What did you love about your reception?
We really tried to create a wedding full of easter eggs, that were little personal touches people would notice throughout the night, so I loved seeing people notice little things, like candlesticks with bird on them, that reference an inside joke or our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding portraits hanging behind the bar; it was special to see people notice and react to the little touches.
What is your advice for any future couples planning their wedding? Our guiding question for every decision was “does this make sense for us?”; I would highly recommend this approach! This kept us from falling into a trap of doing something just because we thought it was expected of us or that it would make us look cool, and gave us the freedom to lean into things we had never seen before but that reflected us.
